Welcome to Beach to Canyon webpage
Submarine canyons are one of the most impressive geomorphological features of the earth, thus attracting marine scientists since the early days of ocean floor exploration. From that time to the present, research efforts have increased exponentially in what concerns both technological and human resources.
The main objective of this project is to understand the sedimentary processes related with the longshore drift sand injection into the Nazare canyon head, recognizing the major forcing mechanisms, sedimentary paths and geomorphologic constrains. A geomorphologic analysis will be made by using topo-bathymetric data acquired on the beach, inner shelf and canyon head.
Beach to Canyon Head Sedimentary Processes project is funded by Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (#PTDC/MAR/114674/2009). The Beach to Canyon team wishes to thank the Nazare Municipality and Capitania do Porto da Nazaré for providing project support and also for recognizing the importance of the project objectives.
